birbrightsactivist:

if you want to understand the psyche of our generation take a good look at the stories we tell ourselves about the future

because it isn’t flying cars or robot dogs, it’s faceless government surveillance and worldwide pandemics and militarized police brutality and the last dregs of humanity struggling to survive

our generation isn’t self-centered, or lazy, or whatever else they wanna say about us. we are young, and we are here, and we are deeply, deeply afraid.

Best. Cliffhanger. Resolution. Ever.

The way Jack is sizing him up, though. This is probably the moment he really, really decided “crazy, sexy bastard. I like him”.

What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.

The sadness will last forever.

Suicide note of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)

You wanna know how I know this is fake? BECAUSE VAN GOGH DIDN’T FUCKING COMMIT SUICIDE. MY DAD WENT TO THE PRATT INSTITUTE TO STUDY ART, I HAVE LITERALLY BEEN GOING TO ART EXHIBITS MY WHOLE LIFE, AND I’VE SEEN MORE OF VAN GOGH’S PAINTINGS IRL THAN THE AMOUNT OF PAINTINGS BY EVERY ARTIST THE ORIGINAL PERSON WHO POSTED THIS WILL SEE IN THEIR LIFETIME. So I know a thing or two about Van Gogh.

Yes, he suffered from depression. Yes, he frequently wrote notes to his brother about it. But you know what he didn’t do? Shoot himself. Seriously, if you’re trying to kill yourself, you don’t shoot yourself in the abdomen. You know how people get shot in the abdomen? Accidents. Van Gogh never said he had done it. All he said was that it was his fault. Because he was a really fucking good person and didn’t want the 2 boys who did it to get in trouble. They had gotten their father’s/grandfather’s gun and they were playing around with it. They didn’t mean to shoot him and didn’t talk about it for years, but decades later when they did, the fact that they were the children of an aristocrat caused it to be hushed up, so this wasn’t revealed til later. Now, I can see why you might think he did commit suicide. It wasn’t until fairly recently that this new evidence came to light. But he was a fairly religious man and suicide went against his beliefs, and after all, depression does not always leads to thoughts of self-harm or suicide. But STOP TRYING TO BE A PRETENTIOUS ASSHOLE WHO GLORIFIES SUICIDE AND DEPRESSION BECAUSE IT NEEDS TO STOP BEING SO ROMANTICIZED AND MAKING UP THIS SHIT IS INCREDIBLY DISRESPECTFUL, BOTH TO VAN GOGH AND ANYONE WHO HAS EVER SUFFERED FROM DEPRESSION OR SUICIDAL THOUGHTS. This is all some asshole trying to romanticize the death of a great man, and who didn’t even bother to learn shit about him or stop to think that maybe those of us who have actually suffered from suicidal thoughts might not need you to be potentially triggering anyone or making our suffering beautiful. Because you know what? It’s not. It sucks. It is literally the worst thing in the world to experience emotionally.

Now I’m not the type of person who likes to be a social justice blogger who completely overreacts to things and I rarely do but honestly THIS ROMANTICIZATION OF SUICIDE AND DEPRESSION NEEDS TO STOP. And I hate it so much when people who literally know nothing about art history make a huge deal out of Van Gogh’s supposed suicide because I may not know a ton about him, but I know more than you fucks and unlike you I actually bother to check my facts.
